The Holy Spirit has been a major part in my messages I’ve traveled all over the world and spoken on the last twenty-five years. Specifically, I’m invited to speak on Him among communities in which He’s not mentioned much. One of the first truths I always want to get across is that the Holy Spirit is a “He” not an “it”. The phone you’re holding or laptop you are at right now is an “it”. The Holy Spirit is ALIVE! You can have a relationship with Him as you are about to see. In fact, the Holy Spirit longs to have a relationship with you. He plays a major role with you in your missional life among your daily existing spheres of influence. Here are 3 ways the Holy Spirit mobilizes your missional life:
- He empowers.
One reason Christ followers do not share Jesus is that they feel powerless to do so. It’s the same reason you do not try to start you car if you know there’s no gas in the fuel tank. The good news is that Jesus left you power to fulfill your missional life. The Holy Spirit who resides in you as a Christ follower fuels your missional life. You have the SAME not a lesser version of the Holy Spirit Christians had when the first century church started and exploded with growth. “As they prayed the earth shook beneath them, causing the building they were in to tremble. Each one of them was filled with the Holy Spirit, and they proclaimed the word of God with unrestrained boldness.” (Acts 4:31 TPT) You and I know Jesus because the first Christians let the Holy Spirit lead them with “unrestrained” boldness!
- He Reminds.
Not knowing what to say is a common occurrence in conversations. Guess what? You never need to worry about this when you obey the Spirit’s promptings to meet someone to share the Good News of Jesus with them. Why? The Holy Spirit not only empowers you and prompts you but He also reminds you on Bible scripture that’s the encouragement the person you’re conversing with desperately needs to here. “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and remind you of all that I said to you.” (John 14:26 NASB2020) Please notice the word, “remind”. How can the Holy Spirit re-mind you if God’s Word is not in your mind in the first place? Ignite your daily quiet time. Over time i your daily quiet time, God is not only filling you up with His Living Word but also those that you will converse with about Jesus!
- He Speaks.
I have a two part speech disfluency. One is the disfluency that’s apart of having Cerebral Palsy. The other is stuttering. Later I discovered was linked to the trauma growing up with an abusive biological father. As i’ve let the blood of Jesus heal me of past wounds, He also has healed me of a constant stutter. I love to share Jesus. For a long time I had a fear that my speech impediment. Also, I feared of a lack of knowing what to say. Then i discovered these impacting words of Jesus about the Holy Spirit’s role. “For it is not you who are speaking, but it is the Spirit of your Father who is speaking in you.” (Matthew 10:20 NASB2020) Now, I do not worry about how I sound like because it’s not me talking but the Holy Spirit! As you are sharing Jesus with the lost, know the Holy Spirit speaks through you exactly what a person needs to hear to experience the love of Jesus!
