You are familiar with the crux of Mobilize Ministries™, that we have a practical guide for our missional living that Jesus used in His! As we see in Luke 8:1, 9:1 and 10:1, like Jesus we meet intentionally with someone, investing and discipling him or her. Then we mobilize them to do the same. In result, a mere fruit of this is the multiplication of disciples through your missional living. What propels you to share the Good News? More like who propels you? Here are three mobilizers that Jesus, Himself, imparts in your daily missional living:
1. Jesus wants to meet with you.
If I had a dime for everytime someone says, “Todd, you know EVERYONE”, I’d fund a mission trip for you and every reader of this blog. I remember strange, awesome God-moments traveling to New York City, L.A., San Francisco and other places running into someone on the street who knew me. At universities I attended it would take me forever to get across campus… I’m a slow roller and I would run into many people I know. At conferences in a stadium of thousands, I’d be one of the last to leave because of all the people o was talking with. No, I’m not famous. AND I know that I’m not that cool.
One worldly truth is people like to know people who know famous people. As they say in career development, “it’s all about networking.”[tweetable author=”@toddlollar”] I can remember when I started being known for knowing people and being known. It was when I started meeting with that special Person in my life who went through drastic measures to show me He deeply wants to meet with me. HIS NAME IS JESUS. [/tweetable] Jesus wants to meet with you: “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust…Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the mott High, thy habitation;” (Psalms 91:1-2, 9 KJV) Jesus meets with you in the secret place. I remember when my missional living began to be mobilized. In college, my roommates and I made my bedroom closet in the house we are renting a prayer closet. All it had was a Bible, a desk and a journal. It was my secret place with Jesus. We all have read these words of Jesus: ”When thou pray, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.” (Matthew 6:6). We all know and respect the traditional interpretation of this verse. It was so special though when the Holy Spirit showed me that God wants that intimate time with me, just me, in that secret place. He’s waiting to meet with you. How often do you surrender your life, your time to be with the only One who is your source of life? There was a direct link between when I started meeting with Jesus and when people started wanting to meet me and meet with me. Your missional living will thrive when you let Jesus continually meet with you.
2. Jesus, Himself, mobilizes you.
Is Jesus here? Before you answer, allow me to elaborate, Is the historical man Jesus here on earth? The key to how Jesus, himself, mobilizes you in your missional living is his answer to who was going to come here after He ascended to Heaven. Jesus’ answer to the disciples: ”But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to
you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.” (John 16:7) Wow, Jesus mobilized me in my missional living when I realized He gave me the Holy Spirit to help me! But that is not all! Jesus continues to share what the Holy Spirit does through your missional living: “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.” (John 14.26) Have you ever been with someone who needed encouragement and a scripture popped in your head “out of no where” and you shared and it was EXACTLY what the person needed to hear? Well it did not derive “out of no where.” The words of encouragement came from Someone. He is inside you. His name is the Holy Spirit. Sometimes He’ll tell me to go meet someone, I don’t know what I’m going to say, like in this story, but He mobilizes me through the Holy Spirit speaking to me, giving me every word. Jesus explains best how this happens: “…don’t worry about how to respond or what to say. God will give you the right words at the right time. For it is not you who will be speaking—it will be the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.” (Matthew 10:19-20 NLT) When the Holy Spirit whispers to you to meet someone new to encourage them, obey and trust the Holy Spirit that He’ll speak through you.
3. Jesus multiplies you.
I love honing in on some of the last words Jesus intentionally shared on earth: “Jesus came and told his disciples, ‘I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20 NLT) Like the perfect example of the most impacting leader of all time, He calls his followers to multiply, to make more of what He made them to be: followers of Jesus. Any business side of you has already seen that successful business leaders have modeled this vision of multiplication. But this multiplying commission is so pure that Jesus gives the twelve disciples, and you and me, the greatest mobilizer that will be the multiplier: His presence! You are not multiplying by yourself through your missional living. Jesus multiplies Himself through His presence in and on your life. He is in you for your sake and His presence is with you for others’ sake. The Church launched through Jesus multiplying saved souls through His Holy Spirit: “And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance.” The presence of God through His Holy Spirit came down in Acts 2:3 and met and mobilized God’s people, then in verses 2:41 and 2:47 multiplication occurred. 3,000 baptized and people were saved DAILY!
Will you praise Jesus with me, thanking Him for how He meets with you, mobilizes you and multiplies you?! Yes, the crux of Mobilize Ministries is the awesome practical missional living guide we get from the life of Jesus that we can meet with a friend, mobilize them to do the same and see multiplication through our life, but we always want to be empowered by Jesus and His presence! How, specifically, will you respond to Jesus’ desire to meet with you daily? How are you going to respond to the Holy Spirit’s promptings today? How are you going to acknowledge the presence of God through your missional living now? Please comment below. I’d love to carry on the conversation with you.
