“If I go up to heaven, you are there. If I make my bed in hell, you are there.” (Psalm 139:8) In life, darkness can be so real that it can be overwhelming. When Daniel and I started meeting, he had a relativistic mindset and was running away from God, going to escapes to ease the pain of severe depression and suicidal thoughts. [tweetable author=“@toddlollar”] Doctors told him he had an illness that would require medication for the rest of his life. I shared with Daniel out of my own testimony of Jesus delivering me from darkness that Jesus is the only way. Months into journeying together, Daniel texted me “Jesus told him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.’” [/tweetable] (John 14:6 NLT) That night forward, I witnessed not only Daniel letting Jesus be His Lord, but also the joy and light of the Lord engulf Daniel so much that he was out of the depression that imprisoned him for so long. He also was set free from any dependence to medication despite what Doctors spoke over him.
Daniel seriously answered Jesus’ invitation “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.” (Matthew 16:24) Daniel became such an example for me. From Daniel’s return to Jesus to this date, I hear stories, never from him, about how he serves people in ways that others do not know about either. I don’t gravitate toward thinking of ways to practically serve Jesus, so this inspires me. Daniel is thriving through being mobilized in a Mobilize Ministries™ Missional Living Community™ and was truly launched into sharing Jesus in daily life by the encouragement and equipping of this group of guys. When I think about my friend Daniel, I’m encouraged by this truth in living color through Daniel’s life… “the joy of the LORD is your strength.” (Nehemiah 8:10 NASB)
