Rolling into the studio in West Monroe to sit down with Jase and Al Robertson felt less like recording a national broadcast and more like a holy, ordained family reunion.
For years, Jase and Al have been unashamed champions of the message God has called Mobilize Ministries™ to declare. Jase wrote the foreword to my first book, Weak Is The New Strong, famously reading the manuscript and penning his thoughts from the quiet seclusion of a Louisiana duck blind. But sitting together at the table for Episode 1411—titled “Jase Finds the One Man Who Matches Phil Robertson’s Passion for Jesus”—allowed us to dive headfirst into the message at the absolute core of our calling: that Jesus wants to mobilize every believer out of missional paralysis and into their daily existing spheres of influence.
The 20-Year LSU Reunion: A God-Ordained Encounter
One of the richest moments of the day was an unexpected reunion behind the scenes. Decades ago, when I was serving as an evangelist on the campus of Louisiana State University, I met a young law student named Gary Glenn Osborne. Gary and I quickly bonded over our shared hunger to see people meet Jesus. At the time, Gary would constantly tell me stories about his hometown duck-hunting friends and their patriarch, Phil, who possessed a relentless fire for sharing the gospel. Gary would tell me, “You share Christ like my friend Phil.”
During the recording, Gary surprised me on set. We hadn’t seen each other in twenty years. Today, Gary serves as a faithful elder at the Robertsons’ home church. Hearing Gary share on air how our sidewalk evangelism at LSU left an indelible mark on his life—and how he went home twenty years ago and told Phil, Jase, and Al about a guy in a wheelchair who was “a magnet for Jesus”—brought tears to all of our eyes. There are no chance encounters in the Kingdom of God. What seemed like ordinary campus conversations twenty years ago had quietly multiplied into spiritual generations. This is divine order at work.
A Megaphone for God’s Strength
As we spoke about navigating life with cerebral palsy and a speech impediment, we laughed about the daily realities of life in a wheelchair. I even shared one of my favorite jokes: that wherever I travel to preach, I always bring along my personal speech therapist—Siri—and if I fail to enunciate clearly, my GPS map will navigate me into an entirely different state!
Beneath the laughter lies the spiritual foundation of my entire life: 2 Corinthians 12:9. Human weakness is not a disqualifier; it is God’s sovereign megaphone. As Jase and I discussed, when human strength runs out, supernatural power steps in. My wheelchair is not a limitation holding me back; it is the physical platform God uses to display His glory and release an impartation of His grace.
During the episode, Al Robertson offered words that humbled me to my core:
“Other than my dad, Phil Robertson, I don’t know of anyone as passionate about sharing Jesus as Todd Lollar. I put you in that sphere—which you know for me, that’s a big sphere.”
Hearing those words from Al was a profound reminder of why we run—or roll—so hard after this mission. It isn’t about promoting an individual; it is about honoring a Savior who transforms our brokenness into Kingdom reality.
A God-Ordained Convergence: YouVersion and Unashamed
When the episode aired, the Holy Spirit orchestrated a providential convergence that blew me away. That exact same morning, YouVersion featured my video teaching on 2 Peter 1:3 on the global home screen to millions of users.
Reading the comments rolling in on YouTube showed how God was aligning these moments to ignite hearts. One viewer, Beth, wrote:
“Todd was featured in my guided scripture devotional video today speaking on 2 Peter 1:3 in the Holy Bible App and now I see him on Unashamed. That’s definitely a GOD thing.”
Another viewer, J. Mitchell, shared:
“Watching this and hearing Todd’s story and his passion for sharing the gospel is inspiring and brought to mind John 9:3. P.s. I Just ordered his book.”
Seeing people encounter the message on the Bible App and then immediately see it lived out across the table on Unashamed created a spiritual shift. When God lines up opportunities like that, it dismantles excuses and gives everyday believers the keys of advancement to step out in faith.
Breaking Free from Missional Paralysis
The heartbeat of our discussion centered on my new book, Mobilize Your Missional Life: Thriving as a Jesus-Shaped Influencer, featuring a foreword by UPPERROOM founder Michael Miller.
We talked frankly about the epidemic facing the modern church: missional paralysis. Across our culture, so many Christians attend weekend services, feel inspired, but find themselves completely immobilized on Monday morning. The Devil’s schemes work overtime to convince believers that they lack the theological training, the status, or the polished perfection required to share Christ. But demonic intimidation loses its grip when we realize that sharing Jesus is simply an overflow of abiding in Him.
In the book, we unpack the practical framework to break free—Meet, Mobilize, Multiply. Evangelism is not an awkward sales pitch or a formal church program; it is walking in your everyday calling. God has already intentionally positioned you within four unique spheres of influence where no pastor or traveling evangelist can go:
- Your Family
- Your Friends
- Your Coworkers
- The Strangers you cross paths with each day
As my late mentor Stanley Shipp used to tell me, all it takes is being willing to “put a good word in for Jesus.” If every Christ-follower simply resolved to meet with Jesus intimately, allow the Holy Spirit to guide their ordinary steps, and share Him with just one person, the global church would double. We do not need a “bring-a-friend-to-church” day; we need to bring Jesus into everyday conversations. That is how spiritual breakthroughs happen.
